About Me
santoni, sydney/2024
Welcome to my website! My name is Santoni, and I am an architect with a passion for Humanistic Architecture. With a background in Architecture and a Doctoral Degree in the field, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my profession. I have dedicated the past seven years to teaching architecture, and this website serves as a platform to showcase my portfolio, modules, and research journals.
In 2023, I completed my Doctoral Degree in Architecture, specializing in Humanistic Architecture. This concentration allowed me to explore the intersection of architecture and human behavior, focusing on creating spaces that enhance the well-being and quality of life for individuals and communities. Through my studies, I have gained valuable insights into the power of architecture to shape and influence our daily lives. Throughout my teaching career, which began in 2015, I have had the opportunity to instruct a variety of courses. These include Architecture Design Studio, Building Technology, Urban Planning, Communication in Architecture, and Final Project. Teaching has been a rewarding experience for me, as it has allowed me to share my knowledge and passion for architecture with aspiring students. During my academic journey, I have pursued research in various areas of interest. My bachelor's degree focused on Cinematic Architecture, where I explored the relationship between film and architecture, and how cinematic techniques can be applied to spatial design. For my master's degree, I delved into Urban Morphology and Building Typology, examining the evolution of urban landscapes and the typologies of different building structures. One of the areas I have extensively researched is the phenomenon of slums and their impact on communities. Understanding the challenges faced by these marginalized areas has inspired me to explore innovative architectural solutions that address issues of housing, infrastructure, and social cohesion. Additionally, my research has also explored the significance of riparian areas, flats, and human behavior in shaping urban environments. Through this website, I aim to showcase my expertise, research, and professional achievements. I invite you to explore my portfolio, modules, and research journals to gain a deeper understanding of my work. Thank you for visiting, and I look forward to sharing my passion for architecture and its potential to create meaningful spaces that positively impact our lives. |

Relocating Illegal Urban Settlements and Fulfilling the Human Needs through Physical Order: An Evaluation of the Marunda and West Jatinegara Flats in Jakarta, Indonesia
This research examines the phenomenon of the increasing number of illegal habitations in cities that has resulted in crowded conditions and several social and economic problems. Various kinds of planning are applied in every region with each differed policy and focus on illegal habitations, with issues on improvement, renewal, and relocation. The issue focused in this paper is the ways in which the human needs are responded to in the relocations of the illegal habitation in the cities. Human needs of illegal habitations can theoretically be classified into five levels: necessity, i.e., physical needs, security, social needs, self-reward, and self-actualization. The focus of this research is to evaluate the concepts and methodologies of architectural planning in the re-settlement of illegal habitations in Indonesia. It does so by comparing the human needs of the re located illegal habitations to the new habitations through physical order. The research employs qualitative and analytical methods, based on four criteria, i.e., the habitation, architecture, the inhabitant, and the process. They are related to the five levels of human necessities. The research examines the Kampung Kalijodo, people of which were relocated to the Marunda flats. The research stresses on the crowded habitations for which fulfillment is required, beside the analysis on existing conditions of security, public areas, activity system adaptation on social aspects, and the origin of the relocation process towards the appreciation of the inhabitants. |
